Where are the Wapplers?

At my wife's eighty-first birthday dinner yesterday, my daughter-in-law prepared a meal so delicious that the usual buzz of conversation transformed into a symphony of chewing and the odd contented grunt—a culinary masterpiece that left us speechless, quite literally.

It reminded me a bit of our Community lately, which seems to have hit the "mute" button on the usual chatter.

Could it be that us Wapplers are too engrossed in devouring the latest beta release? I know I’ve been savouring every bite of it!

I confess to having some reservations about the latest AI developments.
Don t get me wrong, in terms of productivity they are amazing.
But what i love about being a dev is the creativity of it all and the challenges to solve problems.
As a consequence, i try not to use the AI features for anything but the mundane so I can enjoy the challenge.
I fear that by Beta 8, AI and Wappler will become so powerful we will be reduced to the role of system analysts with no part in the final coding.
Glad I am getting older and no longer rely on income from dev. work. I predict we will become the first profession to be totally replaced by AI.

Maybe everybody is talking so much with AI's like ChatGPT that they forget to talk to each other

Yeah, this AI stuff is great for getting stuff done right now that was a little bit out of my understanding! But it does make you think about the long haul! What happens way down the line when AI's doing all the code, and there aren't many dev's around who really understand the engine under the hood? If it starts going in directions we didn't see coming, who's going to be able to figure out what's what and make changes? Feels a bit like we're enjoying the fast pace of improvements in AI now, but maybe it's leading somewhere a bit unpredictable.

All Wapplers are in Australia :australia:

I don't intend using AI for anything more than quick snippets of code which might speed things up. 95% of the time I am continuing without it and much prefer that. I have huge reservations about AI when it comes to coding and @raymantle is right about it churning out code that in the future no-one will understand because they've not needed to. Not good.

And happy birthday to Mrs @ben  :birthday:

So . . . Are you going to share the menu?
Happy Birthday to Mrs. P :birthday:

Best wishes to the Lady of the house @ben

We are busy with new functionality for Project Management Clients. Enjoyable workload though. With regards to AI we use it for middleware and functionality rather than for actual design so we have not made use of the Wappler side yet. All of our AI undertakings are in VSC with Cline for this reason. Am however very happy with the addition of Open Router in to the Wappler side as when we can make use of it within other types of files it will then have a use for us. But will be very difficult to break-away from VSC so will see how it goes when that comes about. The subject of where will AI leave us Developers... Well I think we shall be the ones fixing what AI broke. That and making sense of what it generated due to the copy and paste brigade not having a clue about what they have done, nor what it does, or the implications of blindly using AI output for everything they can. Already seeing it. All fine that AI can do some amazing things even in the hands of those that do not have a clue. The consequences are boiling up and over though. Remember when the printed press complained the Internet would see the end of newspapers etc...? Do we still have newspapers...? Yes, and magazines too, and books! There are many such examples of when a new technology was introduced and many screamed this will change everything but very little actually changed in the end. I believe this will be the same for AI too. A lot of hype and worry but in the end not much will change. Yes there will be a shift but not a total disregard of what came before it. With that said I think most of us are quite safe in out jobs. For those that can only rely on AI for output I believe they are the ones that need to worry about their future once the hype is over. Suppose we'll have to wait and see though.

I think your comparison to a delicious meal is spot on. Wappler is as stable as it has ever been right now and that leaves us less to talk about.

I still don't use the AI much other than some code completion in the code view. I don't understand it and have yet to figure out how it can help me.

Happy belated birthday to Mrs P - sounds like you both had a great day.

I love this forum but been busy over the last few months, family weddings, visits to Amsterdam (wowza) plus work commitments. I've tried out a few iterations of V7 but haven't used it for production purposes, I never do until the first stable release. So I've just been dabbling for the last few releases - I have tried the AI and like it, not as a total solution, but a very decent copilot for taking on the simpler, more repetitive tasks.

I've a feeling that once V7 is released as stable there will be more users reporting back small issues (as is normal with all software) so the forum will get a bit busier.

Meantime, I'm trying to spend a bit more time here with a view to at least trying to give a little pay back into the value I've received from it over the years.

I would like to be able to anthropomorphize the AI in Wappler by giving it a name. In my case I would call it "Ken" for @mebeingken. Maybe TTS with his voice via elevenLabs?

I would call it "Benson"

Ken - your personal Wappler AI Assistant!

“Ask Ken”

I like it :+1:

But Benson is also nice

HA! If by naming it Ken you mean, "Hey Ken, give me something that might work, but also might be ridiculous", then you are spot on!

I'd have to call mine: "SCRUD Father" a.k.a @Hyperbytes

I hear the Chinese are already working on DeepKen...

We're still talking about AI right?

that's what I am talking about - the AI should be trained to have a persona. One that is encouraging and doesn't let you see him roll his eyes at a stupid question ...
