Having said that you can build a custom login and security module in about 10 minutes anyway
How to updates work or are they even needed if we make a CMS?
Component updates are automatically uploaded on save, The process is entirely transparent. Re a CMS, if it works it will generally continue to work other than all frameworks are potentially impacted by language changes/ command depreciation but that applies to every platform.
Webflow is a good tool for design and very limited in functionality towards CMS. To be honest, I really liked working with Webflow when I found it three years ago. They then started forcing you into hosting with them or having to provide your own code for forms. That really made me look elsewhere as a nice portion of our residual income is hosting and updates. (We brought in about $75k in hosting fees last year. Why give that to Webflow? Seriously. Think about that. A VPS would be significantly cheaper or even dedicated servers.)
Anyway, I found Wappler and harassed them on Facebook with a billion questions. Then I bought it, but was still skeptical. And at the time - Wappler was 1/1,000th of what it is today. And I fell in love with Wappler.
So, Wordpress is very limited and easy to use. And the more functionality you need - the more you have to rely on paid or free plugins. And this creates a security nightmare, it leads to slow sites and plugins for security and page speed and all of this.
Webflow is a step more complicated than Wordpress. And this is because it has more functionality to it and it also gives you more control over design and things like classes. Not to mention their CMS options - which are limited, but more open than Wordpress is.
Wappler is a step more complicated than Webflow in some sense. For most design, it is very simple once you get familiar with it. On the CMS side of things - it can be more complicated, but a lot of that has to do with learning how to use it.
So, in Wappler, I can say, “If the user is male, has a birthday in August, and he owns a cat - then send him $20 from my Stripe account.” In Webflow - you could never do that. And that type of argumentation and dynamic creativity is a very strong selling point of Wappler.
At first, it will seem very complex. But once you learn the basics of CRUD (Create, Read, Update, and Deleting Data) in Wappler you will come to realize that 99% of dynamic development is just reusing simple items that you already know.
My suggestion is use OneNote or something and ask questions on this forum in new posts. Also go through all the documentation and follow along. And when you learn how to do something, put simple instructions in OneNote and you can recall it later if you have to.
For instance, “I just learned how to get records from the database.” I’m putting a simple step-by-step list in OneNote on how to do that.
So keep in mind that there is a lot of documentation. If you get stuck after going through it and aren’t where to start for what you want to do - then use this forum. People will help you.
Lastly, I’ve created basic systems in Wappler for reuse. Like a Authentication system or a blog system. Or I’ve written simple instructions in OneNote on how I did something so I can recreate it rapidly.
Thanks so much. Wappler looks very powerful. I was torn a bit between Wappler and Pinegrow. I see the diff now. Thanks.
