What the future life can be for an app created on Wappler, installed on the client’s server, and further edited by a coder who doesn’t know the Wappler‚ and wants to edit on his way? Is it possible to expect the platform to be independent on that stage with all installed plugins at the moment of transferring?
I have been asked this question by many clients wanting to know if they ever wanted to switch developers, if it would be possible.
Im my opinion, if the new developer was a full stack developer, then yes, they could continue editing the application without ever needing Wappler installed on their side.
Even a developer with little experience in multiple languages could do simple stuff like find and replace strings of text etc.
To be honest though, Wappler is so competitively priced that the new developer should just buy it so they can easy edit the project. Its not like Wappler is an outsystems product which is crazy expensive.
The problem is not the skills needed. Any developer could continue maintaining and improving a Wappler app and it’s core for as long as they need.
The problem, if any, is the license. App Connect and Server Connect are released under proprietary licenses.
The team is quite lenient on what we do with their libraries. In my case I have several core modifications to suit my needs but all in all that could be considered derivative work and I could be infringing copyright.
Hopefully they don’t sue me() as I am just modifying them because I need a workaround until they improve parts of it.
While they are lenient and relaxed I think it’s a topic they need to tackle eventually.
I doubt they will sue you @JonL, where would we get our memes from then.
I have searched without success. Where did you get this wisdom from?

Yes, I just noticed as well. This is the opposite to what I was told when App Connect was first released. At the time, DMXzone wanted to release App Connect under a public licence.
Maybe @George can clarify.
I believe that is still the plan as commented by george several times in the past but they haven’t found time for that yet. Thus why they are so lenient and flexible in allowing us to modify code when needed.
I guess the process involves consulting with IP lawyers to see how to do the transition and finding the appropriate license.
You can continue to use App Connect and Server Connect on any site build with Wappler even if you do not have Wappler any more.
The file header indicates where the libraries are coming from and not your site copyright.
As indicated before modifications of server connect or app connect are on your own risk and might get overwritten by updates.
