V5 training materials

Given the speed of development and the impending release of the final version of V5 is there anyone out there working on training materials…? I’m trying the latest V5 beta right now and it has changed a fair bit - especially the server connect location and server actions - it’d be great to have some sort of tutorials for the new shiny iteration.

hi @TMR ,
Even if there is a switch between versions in Wappler, there is no logical change. For this reason, the materials you define as old are still valid. However, if there is detailed information in your learning process or something you cannot do, please ask the community in detail under a new post. You will see that there are dozens of wappler professionals to help you.

Yes like Serhat said, most things are still applicable, as long as you get the main logic of how to use Wappler.
So please do ask if there’s anything specific in the current documentation that is confusing you. Then we can help you to understand the main logic quicker, and once you do that your Wappler life becomes a lot easier.

Thank you for those comments @s.alpaslan and @karh I posted help requests here before to great effect (also pitched in to help others when I can) so already know this community are fantastic. It would be nice though to have accurate reference materials for such a complex piece of software. When V5 is fully in the wild I can see a lot of new users suffering badly with this,

I have new materials on the drawing board pending coming out of beta. Problem is the interface may still change so it is mapped out but not recorded.

Your videos are totally excellent - such a shame you need to swim uphill with this. It seems to me the valuable time you spent on those fab videos didn’t really justify the relatively short shelf life they had.

I think Wappler is a fantastic bit of kit but it is being let down totally by the current training and reference materials available to all. That, combined with the rapid development (which is good in general) means it’s a tough ask for anyone wishing to help others by creating training materials as it means whatever they create is out of date after only a few months.

I’d personally like to see, once V5 is live, is a catch-up of support materials to match what we are seeing on screen - it’s a simple ask really and one which is easily attainable for team Wappler. Whether that’s done by a third party, or by Wappler is immaterial - what matters is the support for existing and new customers.

I know there is excellent support in this forum, however, for me personally, I’d always prefer to view/read current training/help materials rather than asking for help on an open forum.

I agree the “out of date” issue is inconvenient however in most cases it is little more than cosmetic interface changes or workflow tweaks rather than significant changes.
I guess that is something we will all have to live with as a consequence to the unique service of weekly updates. I would hate the team to go to, say, yearly updates like most platforms so I will live with the inconvenience.

I do agree that it’s nice (and unheard of with other vendors) to have such regular updates, personally, I’d rather one week was devoted to producing support materials then on the alternate week, platform changes and updates - at least until the deficit was caught up with. @Hyperbytes and a lot of others on this forum are power users, what about the new customers that are much required to keep the platform growing?

I’m so happy I came onboard when I did but I know for a fact that if I came to Wappler now instead of a good while ago, Id have given up by now solely because of the training materials - I’m sure there are a lot of others thinking the same.

I’m really not trying to bash Wappler (or the fantastic dev team) so here’s a side note on what I had to do this week. I had to re-edit some classic ASP in our largest site (it’s monumentally huge) I had to use Dreamweaver for this. I hadn’t used it for a couple of months and it was an eye-opener to see just how dated the interface/workflows were - would I prefer going back to that? Or would I prefer Wappler even with its lacking training support?

It’s a no brainer I guess, Wappler all the way

My new material is designed to address exactly that. Its notionally a 7 day intensive crash course targeting those with a 7 day trial designed for someone who has never seen Wappler or even done web design before.

Fantastic idea…!! Any rough idea when it’ll be out in the wild…?

When I started with Wappler, the V4 just came out so all docs and videos were based on V3. I didn’t have any issues following any of those as the most important basics are always the same. In the V5 beta’s I see less (if there even is any) logic changes from V4 so I wouldn’t believe that new users would have any issue following docs and videos based on V4.

I’m using many Saas’s in my business and most of their docs and video’s are based on their old versions too.

First modules within a couple of week or so of coming out of beta, 30 modules on drawing board for course 1 then if all goes well course 2 will be an e-commerce based course.

Course design includes branches/ forks to cover different technologies/ techniques
Node based, all done as local server with SQLite but with Docker deploy fork. Will probably add PHP setup at some point as another branch, after all once the setup is done the server technology is pretty irrelevant to the design technique as Wappler manages everything, it’s just a few things that can be done with Node which are not available to PHP.
Its kind of my retirement project :grinning:
