UUID Question

Lets say I have a database table that has four fields.

1: Record_id (AutoIncrement)
2: Record_uuid (UUID)
3: First_Name (Text)
4: Last_Name (Text)

When I insert a record I need the UUID field to auto generate the UUID. Is this possible? I'm just exporing UUIDs. Never used them before but have a potetial project coming up that may require it.

Yes, it is possible. I do it through a server action database insert or update.

Perfect, easier than I thought. What is the difference between UUID and UUID7?

Actually, I did not know much, I have just never used UUID7.

When I googled it, this is what I got:

The primary difference is that UUID v4 is completely random, whereas UUID v7 embeds a Unix timestamp followed by random data, making it time-ordered and sortable.

Thanks Scott, that's interesting. If UUID7 can have the date extracted from it that may be the way to go for me, saving having to create a creation date field.
