Now think of all those critical services you use that depend on your gmail account to reset your password 
My first question would be ‘Why is someone that has a product with 30 million users still using a gmail email account instead a self hosted domain email?’
I no longer own a business and even I have a self hosted domain email address. No excuse to still be using gmail for email.
The gmail address isn’t the issue. He’s tied into Google for most of his business.
Hi @brad, in the case of Terraria, the matter goes a lot further than Gmail, they are using a lot more paid Google products including the App Store. I think Jon's mention of Gmail was just an example.

Are you still placing (render blocking) Google Analytics on your sites?

That’s why I use my own domains for my email. Some Google bot can just wake up one day and assign you the false boolean, and you’re stuck with zero access to all your hosting accounts, storage, saas services, etc. There is no one you can email or call on that day. Human support is underrated in this era of “automate all the things!”
Agreed that it goes beyond email though.
