Never in all the Security docs do I see “Basic Authentication” checked. What is it for?
Personally I think the Basic Authentication needs removing. If I remember correctly it simply uses plain text to authenticate…?

But ‘Basic authentication transmits user names and passwords across the network in an unencrypted form’. Never good practice. Is this more for Intranets?

Basic authentication is not less secure then any other login form, with a login form your password is also send unencrypted to the server. When you use https both of them are encrypted and equally safe to use.

I mean I understand the concept for authentication. My question is over the panel says Basic Autentication REALM??? what is this for? Is only for console?
