Question about Wappler vs custom code etc

Just a quick question. Unlike Bubble, it seems like Wappler is more custom code and allows you to edit and change the code directly. Just wondering though, worst case scenario, say Wappler just disappears or gets bought out or something, what happens to my application then? Can any developer just go in and keep editing it manually or would it be hard without the Wappler application?

Is there anything in an app I’d build that is specific to Wappler, or is the idea that with Bootstrap and whatnot, it’s using common web technologies vs anything proprietary?

Thanks!

Wappler allows you to export the app code in clean HTML and CSS. I would assume that before Wappler would disappear they would let you know so you could export it.

There isn't any facility to export the code - and there's no need for one. The code is created in text files (HTML and CSS etc) as it would be if your were using any code/text editor.

If Wappler disappeared, nothing would happen to your application. None of the code you create is dependent on Wappler. A developer could go in and keep editing manually. However, without the application, it would be a lot more difficult to continue development - you would obviously be missing all the benefits of the Wappler UI which is based on the Wappler App/Server Connect framework.

Oh okay. Sorry, I’m a newbie and this is what I was told.

Thanks everyone! That’s what I figured but just wanted to be sure. I realize it wouldn’t be super easy to do it all manually but great to know I still can and won’t be out of service (like if Bubble were to shutdown and take all my data with them).

In all fairness they always said that if they had to shutdown they would release with an Open Source license all the needed pieces of software so anybody could keep running their apps. It is also part of their FAQ.

You still need a lot of faith to put your business in the hands of a FAQ topic. There is no legal basis that obliges them to do it when the time comes.

Now that they have external investors it is even riskier to believe it will happen.

Better to have your code under your control from the first moment.
