What are your plans when Wappler 7.0 is released? Many of us have production sites built on previous versions of Wappler, including myself now. I'm sitting on v6.7.3 and will wait a few weeks, watching the community posts, once v7 is GA.
Staying on 6.7.3 isn't a good long-term strategy because I'll miss many of the enhancements, bug fixes, and value of later versions. But I also don't have a strategy or process to test v7 with my site.
I'm very curious how others here test new Wappler versions before installing it over your existing version that can deploy to your production site(s). How do we get previous Wappler versions if a new version breaks functionality in production? How do we roll back upgrades? These are the things on my mind now as a v7 is certainly around the corner.
The online frameworks are not influenced by the Wappler version. So the server connect and app connect versions and components will be the same and even when there are updates to those you will get them as inline updates even in older Wappler versions, well at least on Wappler 6.5+ version
In the past anyways, the Beta runs as a separate install and you can have both the Beta and the latest Stable running/installed.
Here is a tentative roadmap for Wappler 7. Most of it seems to be geared to very advanced users so I likely won't be testing Beta this time around unless there is something relevant to my workflow.
I have seen the framework update behavior already and familiar with how that works. I trust that the Wappler team wants to release a quality product, but no software is perfect or bug-free. Therefore, I'm still in search of a way to test new Wappler versions, especially major releases, before installing over existing versions. Do you have suggestions?
You can install old versions using old installers. It's possible to download old installers if you look at the current installer URL and manually change the version
For prior upgrades, I've clicked on the link from within the UI, top right corner, but don't recall if that immediately starts the upgrade, or brings me to a webpage. So, I hesitate to test that right now. What's the installer URL?
I duplicate the site and run one on previous version stable and other on new beta. I always have more then one machine so i can always run old and new alongside on different machines. Occasionally i use Hyper-V and run both on same machine side by side.
Only when beta proves stable do i then switch over live site
