New Actions Panel in Server Connect

Intro

In Wappler 7 beta 8, we're introducing a new Actions Panel in Server Connect, displaying server actions grouped into categories. You can easily filter and drag-and-drop actions into your server-side logic. This panel also includes a Favorites section and offers two layout options – Grid and List.

NOTE: The new Actions Panel is available as an Experimental Feature, so please turn on the Experimental Features in Wappler general options if order to check it!

Let's take a look at its features.

Overview

The new panel takes the full height of the Wappler window, on the left side of the Server Actions canvas:

Filtering Actions

You can easily filter the actions using the Find Action input on the top of the panel:

Layout

There are two different views available - Grid view and List view, you can switch between them. For Grid view (which is the default one) select the Grid view button:

For List view select the List view button:

The layout is smart and it will remember the states of each of the categories - which one do you prefer closed and which one expanded, after Wappler restart and on project change:

Favorites

You can easily add any of the available actions into a Favorites category. Simply click the Add to Favorites button on any action:

You can find all your favorite actions in the Favorite category:

To remove an action from Favorites, click the Remove from Favorites button:

Drag and Drop Actions

It's really easy to add an action to your server-side logic. Drag any action from the Actions Panel and drop it on the Server Action steps canvas, where you need it:

Poll

Please let us know what do you think about the new panel.

Also, please let us know what do you think about the two layout options for the actions - Grid and List View, should we keep one of them or keep both and let the users choose their preferred view?

Which View should we keep?

  • List View
  • Keep both (user choice)

I love the favourites tool. Works very well. WiIl favourites be added to this panel as well?

I find the drag and drop method of adding actions very awkward as I have to use trackpad instead of a mouse. Actually it doesn't even work if you use tree view for your actions steps builder. But I will open a bug report for that.

But so far it seems to be working great. Well done. :beers:

Edit: Hmmm, drag and drop suddenly started working in tree view.

+1 for this.
I don't use the actions panel nor the tree view, so having favourite in the regular add action picker would be great to have.
And with robust keyboard/shortcuts support.

I was so glad to see this view. :slightly_smiling_face:

Saves wading down the whole list. :+1:

Maybe initially we should collapse all categories and leave only favorites and core actions open?

Furthermore the collapsed categories are remembered so you are actually creating your own view.

That is exactly how I set mine up. Love it.
