Damn.
We have been using Postgres for a couple of years now. Very few, mostly old, projects on MariaDB now.

Yeah, I'm using Postgres exclusively, but MariaDB is very widely used.
I don't there's a cause for concern yet, aside from MariaDB company there's the MariaDB Foundation:
The MariaDB Foundation ensures that there is not just one person or one company driving MariaDB/MySQL development . It is the custodian of the MariaDB code and guardian of the MariaDB community. The MariaDB Foundation is the owner of the main MariaDB server project and owns mariadb.org.
The cooperation between the commercial side of MariaDB and the open-source community is important for the health and sustainability of the open-source version.
