Interested in some Mac advice. What do you Mac users use to replace the Adobe suite (I understand we can use an emulation layer but would like to hear suggestions for an outright replacement)? We do quite a lot of image editing and video work. I know Final Cut is available but is it worth the money and can it complete with After Effects? Also a Photoshop and Illustrator replacement, any thoughts? Appreciated.
Not sure about video as I have never got into video but for photos and graphics I am switching to Affinity Photo as soon as my Creative Cloud subscription runs out.
Isn’t Adobe CC available for mac?
I’m not sure to be honest Jon. We are exploring other avenues right now. Affinity looks like a bargain. We used Gimp for a long time on our Linux boxes but stability was sometimes questionable.
EDIT:
Yes looks like CC is available for Mac too…
Yes, but expensive. I mainly had it for Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Business Catalyst. DW and BC are dead now.
CC is available for Mac. I have a subscription for it but am actively looking to cancel it as it’s very expensive and I just don’t use it much these days. Some alternatives…
Photoshop - https://www.photopea.com/
Illustrator - https://gravit.io
Premiere - https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve
Dreamweaver - https://wappler.io
Your CC license will let you install onto two computers and you can mix and match Windows with Mac.
As it happens, I purchased a copy of Affinitity Photo yesterday. It looks great. It’s usually cheap but it’s half price at the moment (and it’s not subscription-based). I think I’ll probably get Designer too. Unfortunately you need separate licenses for Mac/PC.
My image editing needs/skills are pretty basic. When I had an Adobe CC subscription I usually used Fireworks instead of Photoshop. Since then I’ve reverted to an old pre-subscription version of Fireworks. However, as Fireworks has not been developed/supported for a long time, I’ve been thinking I should look for alternatives and I think this may be it.
I’m also looking to ditch CC for Affinity.
Can you open .ai files with Designer?
No subscription, but what about updates?
Any idea how long this 50% deal is available for?
Yes but you'll be limited to what you can edit. It would be similar to opening a PDF.
I believe minor updates are free (i.e 1.8 to 1.9) but major versions would need a new license.
I think I read somewhere it was for running for the entirety of 2021 but that could just be the 90 day trial.
Yeah I have all oof the affinity apps and they are good
