Mac Update - Big Sur

@George, I just got the notifications on my iMac and MacBook Pro that there’s an update available. Instead of the usual Catalina updates, I see that it is named Big Sur.

Will Wappler work on Big Sur, or should we delay installing Big Sur for a while?

Thanks

Well I have no idea - but expect it to work just fine.

I will try it next week when I got my new Mac mini with M1

Welcome to the Mac World @George!!

I’m already a long time mac user Scott  - got a great MacBook Pro - just not yet updated with Big Sur - that privilege is the new Mac Mini M1 - have to keep multiple MacOS versions running

It works for me on an previous beta. I have not updated that machine for a while though.

@George will that be the silicon version?

We hope to make a Apple silicon version indeed asap. Just as google finish up their chrome, we will follow

Hi @scott,

I updated to Big Sur yesterday and Wappler is working great on the latest MacOS

The OS download size is huge - more than 12GB. The upgrade process also took more than an hour on MacBook Pro, but this may differ for each machine.

Same here… not a problem with Big Sur.

Should I update my 16" MacBook Pro to Big Sur @guptast @revjrblack? It’s not my main machine so I generally would update that first.

I haven’t found anything for nwjs though.

Well NWJS is following.

Electron already has it:

Maybe we should switch eventually

I have a 15" Mid 2015 MacBook Pro and Wappler runs perfectly on Big Sur.

When you have the time for the download and installation, you will not be disappointed with the update to the new macOS. It contains a lot of changes ascetically and many other improvements. Wappler does fine.

Thanks for that. I reckon I’ll give it a go.

Hi @sitestreet,

As @revjrblack mentioned, Apple has certainly put in a lot of effort to make Big Sur aesthetically and performance wise better than the previous updates. So far, I haven’t come across any issues when running the Wappler application on the new update.

I’ve updated to Big Sur and my MacBook won’t even login. Just hangs at login. First time I’ve had an issue with a Mac update like this. Spent 5hrs trying to resolve. Given up and reformatting now. Glad to hear that Wappler will work once I’m back on. :grinning:

Ooh, not good.

I just installed Big Sur on an old MacBook Air 2013 and it all installed nicely! Download was a bit large 12GB and need to had 30GB free to install it but that was all.

After Big Sur was installed - I did a regular Wappler installation and all went very smoothly!

Wappler runs also super nice on Big Sur! Even on my old MacBook Air!

Do enable push notifications for Wappler when asked - to be able to get notifications about future updates.

Not a bad idea. Now that Electron is property of Microsoft one would think that it will be taken care of given that VSC is built on it. I am assuming that Facebook is also interested in keeping the project alive given that Whatsapp web client is also build with Electron. Also for Amazon with Twitch and the Slack guys.
