How do I achieve the old DMXZone Magic Key Trick

Anyone remember the old Online Page Editor with its no login page, just a magic key combo that allowed a login popup.

Anyone got any ideas how to achieve this so I can skip the Login page idea.

Could you not stick the form in a modal and open that with a key press?

I can get it to work with a single key but before I used to make the user type an entire word, like hold shift and type EDITME
That was the last one I remember doing.
