Direct vs Server Connect

I read the docs but I’m still not sure what the difference is between Direct Database Connection and Server Connect Connection (the buttons on the database manager for a new connection). When I create a server action it cannot see the direct connections, so I fail to see the point of it. I was lost trying to figure out why my server action couldn’t see a database until I also entered Server Connect Connection settings. I guess the fact the name says “Server Connect” should have been a clue at the time (which is why I eventually figured it out), but why? Also, I REALLY think the devs need to put a prompt to warn the user there’s no “Server Connect” connection specifically, as a new outsider coming in for the first time and creating a direct database connection may not even realize it at first. Wasted a lot of time on that simple thing.

Hi James,

It should all be in the docs.

I agree, it’s a tad confusing and the ui could have more helpers built in (i.e tooltips or links to documentation that explain).

This is one area that Bubble did really well --Don’t know what an option is? just hover over it to get a link to documentation that explains it.

Ah, I get it now. So Direct Connection is only for modifying the database, and the other is used on the target when publishing the site.

Direct is indeed just for Wappler to read and manage your database from tge database manager.

While server connect database connection is for your site to connect to your database from what your web server.
