Delete projects

Newb question. I have several starter/test projects I need to jettison from my projects folder (my machine is a Mac, iOS Catalina 10.15.7). I understand the process: hover mouse over the thumbnail and click the X that appears in the upper right corner of the doomed project. However, when I hover my mouse, no X appears. The thumbnail merely expands. Is there another way?
