Creating Intranet with Wappler

Hi Wapplers,

Nice to meet you! I am new to web development and was really keen to get started with Bubble but was held back after the pricing update.

I am interested to create a local server hosted intranet where it should be used by just internal employees as a product management system. The reason to store them locally is so that I can save on hosting huge resources and planning to add more, currently at 700GBs.

I had no idea on how to setup database yet but the intranet mainly just need to organize resources such as full quality images and videos of products. Best if would be able to add on plugins like drag and drop to upload to the intranet and store on the local server, then I run OneDrive backup to keep the data safe.

Would that be feasible?

Thanks and regards

Nothing you specify looks to be a problem.

To advise on local server, what backend language do you intend to use? Node? Php? .net?

Every technique you will need to create and manage the data is covered in this course. While it is based on node; as wappler "protects" you from having to code and manages the backend for you, only using layouts (which i believe will also be coming soon in wappler for php ) are language specific.

Thanks for the reply and guide on getting started with Wappler, really appreciate that!

I had zero programming knowledge, therefore I can't really code the backends which really concerns me.

But wow, if I can turn this into a PWA that would be fantastic

Take a look ata this playlist for the PWA:

Dont worry, wappler deals with all that for you.

As wappler uses bootstrap, responsive programming (name for where screens scale/adapt to different sized screens) is easy so producing PWAs is easy.

Have a look here, where I have been playing with PWA (not yet finalised). The install button will only be shown in browsers that recognise installing a web app and hides once the app has been installed.

This excludes anything on iOS and Firefox :-1:

Of special interest:

  1. The Manifest
  2. Registering the Service Worker
  3. The Service Worker
  4. The App Install button

PS: Please excuse the quality of the images, this is a work in progress.

Off Topic: The business operates in a very competitive market and was just about to go bust, partly because of poor Google/Bing ranking. Within a period of a month, the rankings have changed. This can be illustrated by using a search term like Limo Hire Frankston or any of the other services in the footer. More will be added.

This is what the Admin section looks like:

Thanks goes out to my adopted son, Brian English (@Hyperbytes) for supplying videos that help to collect the thoughts for this old codger.

This is a great addition, I love PWAs but the only restriction I'm not happy with is the way users have to install it - having a very visible call to action to install the app is definitely the way to go here.
