Have there been any considerations within the team to add ‘companion’ products to the DMX line-up? Now that Wappler is really on its feet… Any thoughts on adding a Visual Query Builder for MySQL to the product line? Would be an ideal tool to partner with Wappler as the two go hand in hand! Obviously not just MySQL but would be a starting point… Allow for data manipulations, visual query building, view, procedure and triggers, export and import…
Just an idea!
We subscribe to dbForge Studio and would happily subscribe to a Wappler bread variant. I know many others are paying for such tools.
The query builder in server actions is quite visual. I haven't used DbForge. Could share some screenshots or links for what you mean by this?
Intrigued by the idea of Wappler "add-on" tools.
I hope there are no such plans - because it would inevitably detract from all the other things I would like to see in Wappler (general, in some cases very important, improvements and all those items languishing on the feature request list).
From a selfish point of view (because I don’t use it) I rather wish Database Manager hadn’t been incorporated into Wappler - for the reasons above regarding Wappler development, and also because it will never match external tools (eg you use DBForge and I use Navicat). Unless the Wappler team increases in size by a large factor, it’s inconceivable that it could produce a series of companion tools to match those already available (in most cases, for a fairly small cost).
I would prefer the Wappler team focus on making Wappler an even more wonderful piece of software.
We already have a Visual Query Builder integrated which is indeed very visual. Not sure exactly functionality you are referring to @Dave
We do plan to improve it with automatic joins because the relations and keys are already known in the Database manager schema, so it isn’t really necessary to select them again when you make a join.
@TomD the main advantage in the database manager is that is keeps track of your schema changes and you can reapply those to your production database in a controlled and reversible way. No need to mess with SQL exports all the time.
And don’t forget not everybody is familiar with sql and tools for managing databases, advanced data types etc… The database manager offers options that most of the users need to create their databases and insert data inside.
I'm extremely cautious about making any changes to database schema, and I have all the features I need in Navicat. I usually start by making a copy of an existing table - it just requires a couple of keystrokes - in the same way I'll make a copy of a file.
I appreciate this and see why Database Manager was added. I mentioned 'from a selfish point of view' I wish all the work in developing it was directed elsewhere. I mentioned Database Manager in this context to argue against the development of yet more 'companion tools'.
Spurred on by expiry of our dbForge subscription as just about to pay out $179.95 for another year. Admittedly I can be lazy when it comes to writing queries by hand and often oblige the visual side to drag and drop my tables in to the query builder, especially helpful for complex joins etc. As well as for export, import, and backup. Like I said I can understand the points outlined in the above responses to this suggestion. Essentially was interested to know if the team have considered other tools as their skills with Electron could open up dozens of avenues! Must be difficult to contain the want to expand (I know I love to take on new Projects, almost a kick of adrenaline)…
