PLEASE after working on a modal would it be possible to close it by clicking outside of the Modal rather than having to pick an object in the App Structure like a Section or Row (etc) which then closes it? Am forever doing this...

Yes precisely. I'm losing minutes in my day as it stands, time in which I could be practising my Double Dutch skills!
CTRL + Click outside the modal.

Ctrl + Click is generally very useful in Design View - it can click buttons. Eg:
Open/Close hamburger menus and dropdowns etc, open modals - and close them (as Ivan described or by clicking the X or a cancel button)
