Calendar event details in a modal

I am able to pass a variable like the “id” for a calendar event and then open a modal so I can create an edit record however when I do this I see the modal open up quickly with the id visible (test only) but it quickly loads a new blank page with the error — 500 Internal Server Error (mydomainName.com). I am trying to figure out what is triggering this trying to open a new page instead of just opening the modal. Once again the modal flashes open on the calendar page with the variable I passed but then immediately tries to open a new page.
