Wappler builds Node.js. If I found a Node.js headless CMS project, shouldn’t I be able to open it in Wappler and edit it or build on it for my usecase? Wouldn’t this be like me getting the CRUD operations I need as well as a bunch of other features skilled devs already figured out?
I’ve searched the forum extensively and lol a couple of people said they could whip CRUD apps out in 5 minutes. Regrettably, lol, I am not such a person. It’s why I’m here
Unfortunately no. Even if they are nodejs based it doesn’t mean they are wappler based. Each one of them uses a different framework.
You can use a headless CMS side-by-side with Wappler instead. If you want a UI that provides CRUD operations and sits on top of your database without modifying its schema check directus.
I actually found Directus today and was fascinated. I was comparing a few of these comanies and it seems to be one of the best. I figured one of these would be smart to build upon because I'm need something more comprehensive.
it doesn’t mean they are wappler based.
Without the development background, trying to figure out what backend connections should look like as well as safety concerns drove me to seek some sort of standardized solution I could use on the back end.
Some of the threads I saw were enthusiastic about Strapi. Does it not play well with Wappler?
Any of them will play well with Wappler. I used to advocate for strapi, but since directus released v9 and seing their roadmap I now think they are a better option.
Strapi is slowly paywalling certain features like additional roles, granular permissions and SSO(check sso tax) while Directus has a more honest approach where all their features are released to their free self-hosted version and to their paid cloud version.
Also, Directus UI is pivoting slowly from just a CRUD app to handle the CMS to an Internal Tool like forestadmin, jetadmin, retool, etc.
And finally they are very cool guys, very active on their communication channels and constantly engaging with the community!
Now look, I'm not developer- I'm just a very highly motivated, non-technical user trying to parse through as much information as I can as fast as I can! So I'm not an authority on anything.
But just the presentation of their works across all channels
The humble tone and detailed information about their journey, openly speaking of challenges and pivots (I don't mind startup humblebrags or sales at all! I just thinks teams like Wappler and Directus give an authentic energy that I find most of these spaces are TRYING to give.)
The dedication to a great product and making it clear whats for sale and whats not make's me want to be a customer
They have been working at this for years! It was inspiring to see
Any of them will play well with Wappler
Can you point me to any guides or comments on here that explain exactly how I would deploy this on Wappler? All I've gathered is I should do things in Docker but don't know how to put Docker.. into Wappler? Someone made a comment like 2 years ago I think but he didn't explain exactly how to do this. I want to play around with it and learn within Wappler but lol I don't know how to do step 1!
Also what do you mean by they do play well? If a product like that was not built in Wappler but I wanted to build upon it or modify it within Wappler, couldn't I technically do that? It is possible that I am convinced Wappler can do anything so you do have to reign me in in these clarifications lol
They are two separate tools. You don't deploy it on Wappler. What I meant with play well with Wappler is that any type of project you create in wappler will produce a database that is compatible with Directus so you will be able to use it as a CRUD dashboard.
I think you are trying to eat the elephant in one go
Have you started your project on Wappler? That's the first step I guess.
What do you want to modify about Directus? Give me an example.
I didn't land here because I'm a person trying to become a software engineer. Just choosing to solve a problem from an already active community
Trying to get our site and apps built the way we want it has been a very expensive exercise of futility so I figured I'd just do it myself. The no code apps and Wordpress are not going to work
The Directus site does say it can be placed "on top" of a database of users and that it's endlessly customizable. I just wonder what that looks with thousands of users interacting at a time like on a forum or social network. I also wonder if Wappler would solely work on it as a front end builder or if Wappler can customize Directus itself by building more on it if I wanted. It does seem like their team keep up with upgrades though. Rereading their page it doesn't even seem like I would need modification that isn't purely cosmetic. It says its highly customizable so if I wanted some users to have permissions that others don't, that should be simple, right?
I know that everyone says just use ready made options but we wouldn't be building new if those options suited us
I was more concerned that due to my lack of development background, not knowing best practices could put my users at risk in terms of safety down the line. Or trap us in some way. A solid boilerplate to build upon would be perfect. The rest, we already know what we want
Not only customizable but extensible which is something very good for future proofing.
Not this.
This is quite easy.
You are safe with Wappler and Directus in that area.
I think Wappler and Directus make a pretty good stack if you don't have a coding background and when you start learning code(which you will eventually) you will feel that both products don't hold you back.
