Analytics

Is there any free alternatives to Google analytics these days?

What are people using now? Been awhile since I added analytics to a site.

Matomo, posthog and umami are good alternatives.

I like this thread

I also like free & simple.

@JonL have you used any of these?
Why would you choose one over the other?
And have you used unami?
Does it have any advantages/disadvantages because it is free?

I’ve used Matomo (used to be Piwik) before, highly recommend, has the majority of features that Google analytics does.

Not much difference really.

Matomo is php and mysql/mariadb and umami is nodejs/postgresql.

I have used both. Matomo when it was known as piwik and umami. The latter matches better my tech stack and needs.

A plus is that umami states it is gdpr compliant.

Is GA not free anymore?

I actually read “free” as in freedom, not as in “free beer”. Because GA still costs 0 I believe.

Ok cool! We looked at matomo recently. Will look at umami too based on your post. Noting Microsoft also released a new GA competitor

Looks like it is still free so I am going to go with that. Where would you add the embed code to a SPA page?

You can’t.
What we did was on the onshow static event of the route, added some custom js code to setup the analytics code and page-path.
