And no, Paul - file naming expression is not required, it is required if you want to change the uploaded file name.

Thanks Teodor, so i can either use {name}{ext} or leave the field blank which would by default use {name}{ext} anyway, is that correct.

Solved the problem of either updating and deleting old image or update other fields by splitting it as in the image album tutorial by @ben. Instead of uploading multiple images, modified it to update the single image. Works seemlessly now!
